Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a condition involving abdominal pain and diarrhea or constipation that is thought to be caused by stress, depression, anxiety, or other issues with the digestive tract. IBS can usually be classified into 1 of 3 groups: IBS-A, IBS-D, and IBS-C. In this post, I will be talking about IBS-D, which entails IBS with diarrhea.
WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF IBS-D
Researchers are still trying to find the root cause of IBS. It is said that if it runs in your family, then your chance of having either IBS A, C, or D goes up. With either of the IBS’s your colon is more easily effected by anything that comes in contact with it. With IBS-D, your intestines tighten too hard, so your food can’t form.
HOW IS IBS-D DIAGNOSED
IBS is a very “disease” as it may entail multiple different symptoms, making it hard to diagnose. That goes for each type of IBS.
TREATMENTS FOR IBS-D
Possible treatments are gone over with your doctor and they may include: diet changes, which may include decreasing your amount of fiber if you have IBS-D; stress relief, as stress puts you in the “fight or flight” mode and takes away from your digestive process and puts you in the “rest and digest” mode; over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription meds, for temporary relief as changing your lifestyle is a healthier way to do it although it may be more work.
