Why do we have to use “task-switching,” (more commonly known as multi-tasking), so much? Because we feel like we get more done that way! Not so fast, according to studies you can lose as much as 40% of your productivity by “task-switching!” (1)
As soon as I heard that I realized that there is a way to use that information to relieve stress! (The bad stress that no one likes). I started working on one task at a time, and definitely saw some positive changes. To take advantage of this, I also set a timer, and turn off all notifications (DO NOT DISTURB on my Iphone), so that there would be zero temptations!
If I do think of something that I have to do while I am working within the time then I write it down, so I can concentrate on what I am doing. This has been a game changer I have a really hard time concentrating if I too much going on. The point here is writing combined with doing one task at a time has relieved so much stress for me! Also, I am able to get into the “flow state” because I can work uninterrupted, that is if cats weren’t so needy.
I have been using this a ton with creating my health coaching business that works with millennials that have anxiety/stress and/or digestive issues! I realized that there is so much in creating a business that if I try to use “task-switching” then I will just be doing too many things at once, and then my stress will sky-rocket.If I am able to live a stress-free and anxiety-free life, then I will be able to pass that onto my clients!
I can say “DONE” for all those little but important tasks, that would have taken 40% more time, now that I do not use “task switching.”
