Bone Broth Diet – Does It Really Work?

As you’ve probably heard recently, bone broth is very beneficial to you health. One of the benefits it gives you, is that it helps digestion, along with your heartburn. You may have realized that there are “Bone Broth Shops” popping up. That is because more people are realizing the benefit. Bone broth comes in many forms, so you get to choose based on what your palette likes. There is bone broth from fish, chicken, beef, and there is even bone broth powder!

With so many options to choose from, there are also some major benefits!

WHAT EXACTLY IS BONE BROTH? WHY CAN IT BENEFIT YOU?

Have you ever been fed chicken soup when you are feeling sick? You see cultures use bone broth as a staple of their diets. You may also see that it is a major part of diets other than vegan or vegetarian. It is commonly used because of broth is high in nutrients, easily digestible, increases healing, and is very tasty! Where can you get something so tasty, and so beneficial to you?

Bone broth came to be because of our paleo ancestors utilizing every part of an animal. Of the parts, you would most likely never eat are bones, bone marrow, feet, skin, ligaments and tendons, all can be made into broth via slow cooking or boiling.

This process releases collagen, proline, glutamine, and glycine from the bones and ligaments, all of which can benefit your digestion, and therefore you heartburn.
Glycine being one of the most important amino acids (building blocks for proteins) for digestion because it increases the secretion of gastric acid. It also is used for maintenance and growth of tissue. Proline (non-amino acid) helps with cellular regeneration, collagen building, and tissue repair. This was was reported by nutrition researchers Sally Fallon and Kaayla Daniel at the Weston A. Price Foundation.

Researchers from the Weston A. Price Foundation also said that bone broth contains important minerals which are easily absorbed: magnesium, phosphorous, calcium, sulphur, and silicon, to name a few. Magnesium being one of the most important because it is said to help with proper digestion.

IS IT OKAY TO BUY STORE-BOUGHT BROTH OR STOCK?

The same researchers mentioned that most store-bought stock and broth are not what the label says. Companies use man-made meat flavors in soup, sauces, and bouillon cubes. This leads us to obvious reasons that making bone broth yourself is where you get the real benefits

WHAT WAYS CAN I GET “REAL” BONE BROTH?

You can make it at home, with the recipes at the end. If you don’t have the resources, time, or unwilling to put the effort in, you can buy protein powder made from bone broth. This is very useful if you drink smoothies, and if you want to add some protein to your baked goods.

It is best to use as many parts of the animal as possible, it may be difficult to find a good variety of animal parts at a department grocery store. It is also important to buy animal products that are pasture-fed, antibiotic free, and hormone free, in order to get all benefits.

WHAT IS THE BEST, MOST SIMPLE RECIPE?

INGREDIENTS:
-1 to 2 LB bones (you can put meat in, but make sure you brown it
prior placing in slowcooker or oven-top pot)
-1 to 2 TBS of apple cider vinegar
-Filtered water so that all bones
-Your favorite vegetables
-Season to you liking

THE COOKING:
Cook slow on low heat, in crockpot or pot. Chicken bones for 24 hours. Beef bones for 48 hours

AFTER COOKING:
Discard the hard top that is from the cooling process

CONCLUSION

There are many benefits to the bone broth, that anyone can benefit. All the vitamins and minerals in bone broth are not part of the Standard American Diet (Diet).

Bone broth heals your gut. It also supports your overall health.

Aim for 1-2 cups daily. I drink a cup first thing after waking, and last thing I consume.
